Prevention Materials

Prevention Materials Availability is a community-level intervention that increases the accessibility of HIV/STD prevention information and condoms for preventing HIV/STD contraction/transmission. CARES distributes and monitors educational materials, promotional items and other prevention tools at approved sites and through outreach activities. CARES maintains 75 Prevention Material Sites throughout Acadiana including community centers, beauty shops, bars, and tattoo parlors.

The two greatest factors driving HIV/STDs today are poverty and risky sexual behavior. Prevention Materials promote knowledge about the importance of safer sex and distribute barrier methods that make that knowledge actionable.
