“Without AcadianaCares, I would not be alive today.”
— James, an AcadianaCares client

Read James’ story.

In the 1990s, people living with HIV/AIDS began to live longer because of new antiretroviral medications. That’s when our focus began to widen from HIV/AIDS to addressing the underlying factors that make people vulnerable to infection.

We realized that all the safer sex knowledge in the world does not help someone who is too drunk or high to use it. We realized that poverty, mental illness, and homelessness contributed to HIV/AIDS vulnerability. We realized that because the problem is complex, its solution must be comprehensive.

AcadianaCares provides services in four areas: Support, which includes case management and counseling, as well as access to food, transportation, and financial assistance; Wellness, which provides access to education, testing and treatment; Recovery, which facilitates recovery from addiction; and Housing.

AcadianaCares is a client-centered organization — and each client comes to us with unique needs and circumstances. Our case managers work one-on-one with clients to connect them with resources and support to makes a positive difference in the lives of people affected by substance abuse, poverty, HIV/AIDS and homelessness.

We are unable to respond to emergency needs. If you have a medical emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.

At AcadianaCares, we support the most vulnerable members of our community – those affected by HIV/AIDS, inequities in healthcare, substance abuse, poverty, and homelessness – as they seek to live healthier lives. We maintain a campus with onsite programs and services, including primary and preventive care, substance use treatment, housing, and individualized case management. We also connect our clients to external financial, medical and social resources.

We are unable to respond to emergency needs. If you have a medical emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.
